Internationally acclaimed photojournalist Evandro Teixeira, born in Jequie, Bahia, in 1935 studied with photographer Jose Medeiros, of "O Cruzeiro". He started his non-stop career with Jornal do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro, then the capital, and was that newspaper's last Photo Editor until it ceased printing in 2010. He has covered major stories locally and globally including coup d'etats, political uprisings, carnival, indigenous peoples, social events, and  sports. Evandro has been the official photographer of a succession of presidents, and his work is exhibited at home and abroad. His images are in the permanent collections of the Harvard University Art Museums, USA, the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Museu de Arte Moderna de Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, The Museum of Fine Arts of Zurich, Switzerland, among others. His lengthy bibliography includes "Fotojornalismo" 1983/'88, "Canudos- 100 Anos, 1997", Neruda/Golpe Military Coup in Chile, 2005, “68:Destinos", Vidas Secas, 2009, ”Futebol a Paixão do Brasil”, 2010. He is the subject of a full-length movie and a legendary figure for his unceasing artistic and photojournalism oeuvre which reflect his dedication to recording history in the making, and the culture and folklore of his native region, the arid  interior of the state of Bahia. He is represented by Tepper Takayama Fine Arts.
