Cassio Vasconcellos was born in 1965, in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he works and lives. The Polaroid SX-70, which his father acquired when Cassio was 8, has fascinated him since childhood. He attended the Imagem-Acao school in Sao Paulo, at the age of sixteen, but is basically self-taught. He is recognized internationally for his experiments with innovative photographic techniques and styles. He has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Brazil and abroad, including Fotofest, Houston; Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg, Germany; the Museo de Arte Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo; Mois de la Photo, Paris; Photographs, Stedelijk, Museum, Amsterdam; and Tepper Takayama Fine Arts, Boston. His work is in the permanent collections of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, France; the Fogg Museum of Art, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, Massachusetts, the Polaroid Collection, Waltham, Massachusetts, and the Joaquim Paiva Collection, Brazil, among others. Vasconcellos's work is in Blink, published by Phaidon, in 2001, the monograph, "Noturnos Sao Paulo/Nocturnes Sao Paulo" Bookmark, Brazil, 2003, "Image and Memory: Photography of Latin AMerica, 1866-1994, Wendy Watriss, and Fotofest, Houston Texas, USA, 1997, and "Mapas Abiertos-Fotografia Latino Americana 1991-2002", Lunwerg Editores, Spain, 2002 among others. He is represented by Tepper Takayama Fine Arts.
