Milton Montenegro, a self-taught photographer, born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1954, has been interested in photography since childhood. While living in London, from 1975-76, he discovered its potential as a language unto itself. He returned to Brazil, and began a professional apprenticeship in Federico Spitale's  publicity agency.  In 1980, Montenegro founded a state of the art professional studio with Marcia Ramalho, producing advertising for Coca Cola, Shell, Esso and others. He was a pioneer in the use of digital imaging in Brazilian commercial photography.
His art photography is exhibited in venues including the Photographer's Gallery, London, Musee Francaise de la Photographie, Paris, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City, Museu de Arte Moderno, Rio de Janeiro, Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo, and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, North Carolina. Works are in the permanent collections of the the Harvard University Art Museums, Fondazione Italiana per la Fotografia, Musee Francaise de la Photographie, Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo, The Joaquim Paiva Collection, Worcester Art Museum, and others. His bibliography includes the monograph "Camera Obscura",  "Amazonia Luz e Reflexoes", Funarte, Rio de Janeiro, Cover image: 'Alles wat je nodig hebt", A. L. He is represented internationally by Tepper Takayama Fine Arts.
