Helen K. Garber, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, received a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts, Design at the State University at New Paltz, New York, and has lived in California since 1978. After a career in theatre scenery and costume design, painting, computer animation and video, she has concentrated on still photography including portraits for, among others, the New York Times, the LA Times, and, New York Magazine. She is best known for her nocturnal urban landscapes. Her fine art photography has been exhibited in the Houston Center for Photography, Houston, Texas, the Academy of Motion Picture Art & Sciences (2010 "Oscar Noir" Festival), The Annenberg Space for Photography, Los Angeles, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art New Paltz, New York, and the 10th International Biennale of Architecture in Venice. Her works are in the permanent collections of The George Eastman House, International Museum of Film and Photography, NY, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York, Museum of the City of New York, NY, Portland Art Museum, Portland Oregon, Yale University and others. Her numerous publications include "Looking at Los Angeles", Metropolis Books, 2005, Marla Hamburg Kennedy, Ben Stiller, Craig Krull, Jane Brown, Editors, and "Venice Beach, California Carnivale", and international journals. She is represented by Tepper Takayama Fine Arts.
